NEW POWER FOR DISPLACED RAILWAY CARRIAGES
PPM technology can help find a home for former main line rolling stock that has been displaced by new trains. In the UK, hundreds of excellent Mark II and Mark III coaches are now unused, their redeployment on regional lines hampered by a shortage of suitable locomotives. PPM can bring them back to life - with the added benefits of superior environmental performance and accessible space for passengers, cycles or luggage in the new power cars. Preparations for the trial of PPM 50 Car 12 in Sunday passenger service between Stourbridge Junction and Stourbridge Town stations on the UK's national rail network are progressing. David Hibbs, Assistant Director - Community Rail Development of the Strategic Rail Authority, repeated the SRA's desire to proceed with the trial as soon as possible, while speaking at a conference organised by the Association of Community Rail Partnerships on 23rd September. It is understood that, in a change to the first proposals in the SRA's initial consultation paper, one or more of the formal pilot projects for the Community Rail concept may be on a line in a Passenger Transport Executive area.  This could possibly include the Stourbridge branch, which is within the territory covered by Centro.  Centro and the SRA are providing funding for the trial.

15th September, 2004 PPM EXPLORES CENTRAL & EASTERN EUROPE
Parry People Movers Ltd was recently represented at a forum for UK rail suppliers to meet representatives of Central and Eastern European railways and governments.  Potential for PPM products in this part of the world exists because of the large number of uneconomic regional rail lines and urban tramways that have received insufficient investment in recent years.
PPM technology can cut the costs of operating regional railways while improving passenger service and so increasing revenue.  For tramways, PPM offers the opportunity to invest in affordable rolling stock that does not require overhead electrification, so reducing the costs of refurbishing and maintaining the infrastructure.

CAR 12 IN FULL PASSENGER SERVICE AT THE CHASEWATER RAILWAY
PPM Car 12 was used in service on the Chasewater Railway at the railway's Spring Gala weekend in May.  Visitors had a choice of steam, diesel or PPM traction for their journeys through the Chasewater Country Park.  Careful planning of train movements ensured that Car 12 was kept separate from other, heavier rolling stock at all times.
The vehicle is currently based on the Chasewater Railway.  Considerable running, including over 1,400 passenger trips made and significant test mileage, has been accomplished at Chasewater since Car 12 arrived there in July 2003.
