PRESS INFORMATION - JUNE 2003
SCHOOL
RUN QUORN TO LOUGHBOROUGH,
GREAT CENTRAL RAILWAY - LEICESTERSHIRE

PPM Car 12 just
arriving at platform 2, Loughborough Station
during passenger service operations 27-29 May 2003
| Under existing arrangements with the Great Central Railway, Parry People Mover's railcar No 12, is to run a special schools service between Quorn & Loughborough on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd July. Departure is at 8.15am at Quorn and in the afternoon at 4.15pm from Loughborough. | |
| Mr Paul Fisher, the Headmaster of Loughborough Grammar School, has organised this 2 day running, in order to assess its usefulness for students at the school. Car 12 has been providing passenger services on a demonstration basis with a view to promoting permanent services linking the town of Loughborough to North Leicester via Rothley and Quorn. |
The school railcar scheme is being tried as one possible way to reduce the amount of vehicles coming into the town and the school. Road congestion causes a lot of inconvenience on the main A6 road with the last 2 miles of the journey into town sometimes taking over 20 minutes by car. PPM's hope is that people will say 'yes', we need a Park & Ride scheme from Quorn to Loughborough on a regular basis.
