PROJECT INFORMATION SUMMARY - APRIL 2003

ESTABLISHING A BUSINESS CASE FOR LIGHT RAILCAR SERVICES ON PRESERVED RAILWAYS - PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION EXERCISES

SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY - WORCESTERSHIRE

April 10th 2003. After a period of several weeks dealing with technical issues, permission was obtained to carry the public as invited guests. They were provided with a run on the line out of Kidderminster Station to the edge of the Foley Park, a potential park and ride site. The Severn Valley Railway is a single line rural railway linking Bridgnorth and Bewdley with the main line at Kidderminster.
The passengers on board included council officials, journalists, local shareholders and members of the public who had heard about the activity from the local newspaper. Questionnaires filled in after completion of the trip indicated a very high level of approval of the railcar concept and of the vehicle itself.
Car 12 accelerates away from the bay platform with a new load of passengers while previous passengers make their way towards the station complex visible at the rear.
